Dad and I hooked up the HRV (heat recovery ventilation) unit on Friday and it's a beaut! It's so quiet and you can really tell that it's working to bring fresh air in. Dad started laying down some of the planed spruce for the floors and it looks really beautiful. We also got in the mail the finish that we'll be putting on the floors and the trim, it's called Osmo Polyx-Oil and it's a great product, very healthy and made from natural vegetable oils and waxes.

Our well is dug!
So, 31' and we've got water. The flow rate is low, about 2gallons/min. but this shouldn't matter because we've got a big 1300gallon cistern in our crawlspace that will provide plenty of water when we want it. Hooray! Still no idea what kind of quality we've got..will need to send a sample off to the lab to get it tested. Probably high in iron and will need some filtering.

Taping, siding and news of a well!
Dad has nearly finished the siding, just a little bit around the dining nook to go! The taping is coming along famously and is expected to be done on Tuesday, so we can get in there and paint. I picked out the colors and have bought the paint already, because the low-voc stuff I wanted was on sale for cheap. I really like the colors I picked and I'm excited to see them on the wall. Jeff, the well digger, is planning to come up on Monday with all his rigs to dig our well. So, everyone out there in the blogosphere, think good happy thoughts about shallow wells with clear, clean water, OK? The well is the one big variable that is hanging over us all like a little dark cloud. One never knows how deep he'll have to dig to get water, and since he charges by the foot...well....just think happy thoughts :-)

Sheetrock rocks!
The "russians" came and hung all the sheetrock in two days! They did a fabulous job, each electrical box is so tidy and neat. Dad and Mike will blow in the attic insulation on Monday and then it will be ready to tape. I went up today to insulate the crawlspace and only managed to do a wall before I ran out of sharp blades.
